Sadly, Smethwick Foodbank will be closing down after its last session on Friday 29th May, due to lack of funds. We will use any donated money or food up until that last session, to provide food and signposting to clients for as long as we can. If you are donating by Direct Debit, you can cancel them, or they will be cancelled when we close. Any donations of food and toiletries will be used to serve clients until we close, and any remaining will be donated to other local charities who provide emergency food – nothing will be wasted.
We’re very sorry to give you this news. Thank you for all your support.
CLOSURE OF SMETHWICK FOODBANK
Statement from Smethwick Church Action Network (SCAN)
At a meeting of trustees of Smethwick Church Action Network on 28th April 2026 we made the decision that the Foodbank has to close. The last day of opening for clients will be 29th May. This decision was reached with huge regret, but a recognition that our financial situation left us with no viable alternative. The project is running at a significant year on year loss and any continuation would make it impossible for us to fulfil our duties as trustees towards staff and under the rules of the Charity Commission.
We recognise that this will be a blow to clients and to referral agencies and other partners seeking to help them. We will do our best to signpost towards alternative food banks both directly with clients during the remaining sessions and through our partners. We will do our best to ensure that this difficult process goes as smoothly as possible.
